The Special Day Class (SDC) program offers students the opportunity to access Common Core curriculum using individualized supports that meet the unique needs of each student. Core instruction is offered for English Language Arts and Mathematics. In addition, guided instruction and support are provided for all other subject areas.

All students enrolled in the SDC program are mainstreamed during a portion of the day for individually selected general education courses. Students who are mainstreamed for core curriculum are provided with instructional support in the classroom and a period of study hall to assist with understanding and completing their assignments.

We refer to our classroom as a "classroom family" and strive to maintain a positive learning atmosphere where everyone who comes through the door feels welcome. It has become our tradition to celebrate our hard work and positive behavior during "Fun Friday" when we all come together to make a snack and visit together at the end of the day.

I have lived in Merced County for over 40 years. I began working with children during middle school at a private elementary school and continued with the same job throughout high school. After graduating from high school, I married, and raised three children as I worked in the insurance industry. However, my love of working with children never diminished, so I returned to college in order to pursue a career in teaching.

I graduated from Merced College with an AA degree and then earned a BA in Liberal Studies and a teaching credential from California State University Stanislaus. I returned to college in 2014 and received a Special Education from Fresno Pacific University in 2016. My job experiences include working as a 4/5 grade SDC teacher, reading clinician, 4th grade teacher, paraprofessional, and currently as a SDC teacher for grades 6-8. I love being a part of the Planada Elementary School District family.
